Recently laid off?

Please note: I’m not a lawyer or personal finance expert, and nothing included here is legal or financial advice. Before the layoff
Maybe the office rumor mill is just working overtime—or maybe you have a gut feeling that layoffs are coming. If you suspect that your role may be in danger of being eliminated, you don’t have to just sit around waiting for the hatchet to fall. Take action now so you’re prepared for whatever happens next.
During & immediately after
You either saw it coming, or it was a total surprise: The “as of today, you are no longer employed by this company” conversation. Remember that you’re responsible for taking care of your current and future self, so stay professional, depart with dignity, and DON’T SIGN ANYTHING until you hire a lawyer to review the paperwork.
Job searching
Finding a new job can be exhausting, stressful, and demoralizing. There are ways to make it easier on yourself, from changing your mindset to using AI to simplify the process. You can (and should!) also use this time to reevaluate your approach to work, ambition, career path, and goals.
Interviewing & negotiating
You’ve been dreaming of this moment since you lost your job: You finally heard back about one of your applications! Now it’s time to brush up on your interview skills. And hopefully, you’ll be negotiating your new compensation package soon, too. Make sure you leave a great impression and get the salary and benefits you deserve.
